This is a plant-dyed yarn that has been lovingly dyed using "Sukumo Indigo," a traditional Japanese indigo dye.
It can be used for a wide range of crafts, including temari balls, sashiko, and embroidery.

Sukumo indigo is a traditional Japanese indigo dye made by naturally fermenting indigo leaves.
Sukumo indigo is fermented and aged over a long period of time and effort, and contains a rich variety of pigments.
It will turn a vibrant indigo blue.
The dyeing process is carried out in the Nishi-Ogikubo atelier using a technique called "natural lye fermentation," which involves creating indigo liquid using only natural ingredients such as lye and sugar.
Its appeal lies in its good color fastness and texture. It also has little color fading, making it a dye suitable for handicrafts.
It is an important culture that we want to pass on to future generations as a form of sustainable manufacturing that places less strain on the environment and on the people who dye it, and circulates with the local community.

In 2024, I visited Tokushima to learn about Sukumo indigo dyeing, and I wrote a blog post about the two days I spent there.
This was an important experience that marked the beginning of my sales of Sukumo indigo-dyed yarn, and I have strong feelings for it.
Please take a look.
