Difference between NONA Thread and NONA Fine Thread

NONA offers two types of standard naturally-dyed yarn: "NONA Thread" and "NONA Fine Thread."

We will introduce the differences between the two threads with photos.

NONA Fine Thread (left) and NONA Thread (right)

The long, thin bundle of thread (photo [right]) is stitched with NONA Thread , and the square-shaped thread (photo [left]) is stitched with NONA Fine thread .
Both are made from the same cotton thread, the only difference being the thickness and length .

The thicknesses of the two threads are explained in comparison with DMC No. 25 embroidery thread .

NONA Thread (left) is the same thickness as three strands of DMC No. 25 embroidery thread.
NONA Fine thread (right) is the same thickness as one strand of DMC No. 25 embroidery thread.
There is a three-fold difference in thickness, so you can choose the thread you want to use depending on the project you are making.

NONA Thread(and NONA Card Thread)

The card-type "NONA Card Thread" is a card-wound version of NONA Thread. The NONA Thread (right) is about 12.5m long , and the NONA Card Thread (left) is about 40m long .
Please choose the length that suits your project, or the shape that is easiest for you to use.
In temari, this thread is used to stitch patterns.

NONA Fine Thread

A sashiko cloth embroidered with NONA FineThread. Compared to NONA thread, this thread has a more delicate look and is suitable for creating more intricate designs.
The length is about 140m , so the good thing about NONA Fine Thread is that you can use a lot of it. We also recommend using it for embroidery with two or three strands.
When making temari, this thread is used to make the base temariball.

Natural plant-dyed colors are known for their subtle and beautiful variations. By combining them with different yarn thicknesses, the possibilities for your creations expand even further.
