Nowadays, many people give Temari as gifts for celebrations, such as festivals, weddings, birthdays, hospital visits, or as a present to brighten the heart of someone moving to a nursing home. There are many.
Now, about the story from the other day.
We had a customer in his 80s who brought us a very old temari.
It seems to be a temari made by the customer's 102-year-old mother who lives in Kagoshima!
Surprisingly, this temari has a music box built into it, and when you pull the string, the temari song of ``Mari and Tonosama'' will play!
I was told that the old Lillian thread was severely sunburned and damaged, and that I could repair it with vegetable-dyed Temaricious thread, so I thought it would be beautiful as is, but I removed all the thread first.
I feel like a temari restorer!
It's like unraveling the history of what was inside the temari, and you can feel the passage of time.
Then I thought about what pattern to use for the temari.
As expected, we combined the hexagonal "tortoise shell" pattern, which means "long life", into a three-feathered turtle shell that looks like a flower. Expressing the energy of the great mother with madder, I thought of the scene of Kagoshima with its rich nature, and combined it with green dyed with spring grass such as crow's pea. (This is a big mistake, but I forgot to take a photo of the completed work!)
The client liked it and went home happily, wanting to show it to his mother in Kagoshima as soon as possible.
