Temari Time Cotton Friend Summer Issue (2021)

On June 7th, we proposed summer temari during the temari time of the ``Cotton Friend Summer Issue'' published by Boutique.

Today is a sunny day that feels like midsummer, just in the middle of the rainy season. Now is the season when straw hats look good.

When I took this photo, I had just moved into NONA's atelier, and the first floor had just been painted, so I decided to take the photo using the plywood the carpenter had brought as my desk!

Thank you once again to everyone at the Cotton Friend editorial department who worked with me during the moving process, and to HAL-chan for styling!

Now, when you think of summer, what comes to mind?

Having grown up on the coast of Kyushu, I sometimes miss the sea.

When I was staying in western Germany, where there was no sea nearby, I wanted to go see the sea in Germany! Then I suddenly remembered that I had driven to northern Germany to see the North Sea. I remember that the seaside German towns around the North Sea had a Scandinavian atmosphere and were very calm.

Now, the ``aboshi pattern'' is a pattern created from nets, which are an essential tool for catching fish. The work of weaving nets that are familiar to daily life. I made summer temari with such seaside activities in mind.

As mentioned above, I had an image of a seaside area near Scandinavia in northern Germany, but the staff named it ``Fishing Village Temari''.

The theme of plant-dyed thread is indigo.

We discussed with the dyer until we were satisfied with the indigo dyed thread, which conveys the depth and depth of the sea. At first glance, it seems to be the same as the indigo dyeing gradation that I have been making before, but I would like you to understand the difference.

I wanted this temari to play with indigo, so I finished it in a simple color.

After playing with indigo, I hope everyone will make their own colorful summer temari.

The process of making it is also very detailed, so please try making it at home. It's cute even if it's bigger.
